About the author

Devall

Jason Devall has been reviewing toys for the better part of a decade. Through the constant changes and obstacles in his life one thing remained constant, his love for toys. This insane love and his unique kookiness gave him the drive to co-create That New Toy Smell and The Pop Culture Network. He has reviewed hundreds of toys from dozens of companies. From masculine toys to, um, not-so-masculine toys, Devall has timelessly put himself aside to review what the people want. Devall also happens to love anything Disney…and Muppets. Yes…don’t forget the Muppets.

These look like amazing figures. I wish more companies these days were as creative with their toys as these figures are.

  • A. Das Baron

After watching the video, they seem far more worth a purchase than I had thought! Plus this video features “Running change Devall (sans hat)”. I didn’t know what was under there anymore!!!

  • Steve Lustinia

Awesome video review! The new Captain Action figures and outfits are very cool.
Definitely reminds me of the early 70′s when I was a kid growing up with the original set!
Dr. Evil was my favorite! Please enter me in the give-away! Keep up the great reviews!

Great review again Devall, its nice to see these classic toy lines getting updated and re-released today. theadequatesquad@gmail.com

  • Grey

You Captain America review failed to note that the set does not include the straps for the shield. WTH????

  • Grey

Lets try this again…your Captain America review failed to note that the set does not include the straps for the shield. WTH???? It’s a bit hard to get the figure to hold the shield without the straps. This was not a one off issue either, all of the Captain America Classic Covers sets did not include the straps. Was really likeing this line until this issue came up. Talk about idiotic penny pinching! This goes BEYOND piss poor quality control!

  • Yodasoup

These toys look great! I’ve been looking for them in stores but they haven’t been available in my neck of the woods. I probably wouldn’t even know about them if it wasn’t for Devall’s reviews.

  • Devall

    Hey Grey,

Mine were actually packaged in a small bag at the bottom of the package. Not sure if they were thrown in or not as my package was sealed. I’ll ask Round2 about this as I wasn’t aware of this until now, which is why my review covered them. I’ll get an answer as soon as I can from the guys in charge. I get that you are upset, but Round2 is no Mattel when it comes to quality control. This seems to be one snag in their so far great release record.

    UPDATE

After contacting Round2, I was informed this was, in fact, a factory error and Round2 does know about this. Therefore they are providing replacement straps free of charge. Simply call or email the contact below and they will help anyone out who bought this great set and was dissapointed the straps were missing.

    Hope this helps!

Still can’t rock 12″ers, but I love the goofy comic accurate looks.

  • Andrew Mortimer

These toys do just look like tons of fun — definitely the sort of thing I’d have loved playing with as a kid, and I’m glad kids today have the opportunity!

  • janson

Cool review Devall, these are super sweet toys. I always thought Cap
used the triangle shield longer but he is rocking the circle one by
issue 2, who knew? The Captain America mask for CA is a pretty good
representation of Simon/Kirby art but the Thor is dead on Simonson.
Round2 makes the best 12″ toys today.

    justjanson@yahoo.com

ps- Devall what is that “new” toy you are holding in the beginning of the review?

  • Devall

The “NEW” toy I’m holding is a carder vintage Power Lords Shaya! :)

  • Juanchez

Like the way you present the action figures, there been many of times I wonder what come with figures without opening the box, I remember when Ideal first shown CA on TV, I wonder how many kids notice that they were using GI Joe figures to show off CA.s costumes?
You know with the new Captain Action Cartoon coming out it would be cool if there was segment of your show being part of it.

  • Robert Cochrane

Great review. Some earlier comments remarked on the straps missing from the Captain America set. FYI I also had the same problem, however a quick e-mail to Round 2 corrected the oversight. They quickly sent the straps along with an apology. I was concerned as I live in Japan. Round 2 has really done a great job with these figures. A big improvement over the Playing Mantis sets a few years ago, even though those were pretty good. My brother and I had a great time with the original Capatain Action gear.

Great review! I am a big Captain Action and comic book fan so I really hope this line catches on in a big way. I am very hopeful that we will get more costume sets for some classic DC characters as well as some independent properties (hope the Rocketeer rumors are true) to go with the Marvels. Keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching.

  • HoneyDaddyTio

watched all the captain action reviews
    great work!

where do I put the email? for the contest ?!!!!

  • Devall

You actually already put it in, I can see it on the back end on the site. :)

  • Devall

Thanks! And yes, the would be cool! lol! I’ll have to bring it up to Ed Catto and Joe Ahearn….

  • Devall

Thanks! Good to hear that Round2 took care of you! They have some great customer service! And yes, they have done a really good job with this line. The Playing Mantis line was re-producing the vintage line, while this line has done a superior job updating the line while capturing the look and feel of the vintage line!

  • Devall

Thanks! The line has caught on very well from what I’ve been told, and we know we are getting Superman and Batman in the DC Comics line with Aquaman being the Build-a-Costume character! And yes, I too hope the rumors of The Rocketeer come to fruation!

  • http://www.facebook.com/wade.thurman.9 Wade Thurman

Great review as always, Devall! I’ve been itching to nab these up, and that Captain America costume set is SO cool. I just wish they were a bit less expensive at TRU.

    wthurman007@gmail.com

  • Devall

Thanks Wade! I agree on the prices, but for a series like this, its a solid price point. :)

  • The captain

Just as always Devall delivers great review when the next costume sets come out I hope you review them.
